2 min. trailer of The Windows fiction short

“Everything imaginable is truth.”       Gustav Flaubert

Daniel Strehlau’s first short feature film based on his own script and storyboard from 1993. The film was ultimately shot in Warsaw, Poland in 1996 on 35 mm print, which Strehlau bought after earning money working on a construction site in Norway for three summer months each year in 1995 and 1996. At the time of writing the script in 1993 and shooting the film in 1996, Daniel Strehlau was unfamiliar with the film and had never seen Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window”.

The film depicts a young writer sitting in front of his typewriter, struggling with a story, staring out the window. He perceives people in interrelated situations in various emotional states. The viewer sees love, solitude, tragedy, and death. At the end of the film, we discover that what they’ve just seen is a fiction in the mind of the writer.

The film will be reedited and scaled up from 35 mm to 4K quality.

Maestro Michelangelo Antonioni & Wim Wenders & Daniel Strehlau`s THE WINDOWS

It was a great honor and privilege that the great Maestro Michelangelo Antonioni and Wim Wenders were inspired by my 1993 storyboard and 1993 script for my short film “THE WINDOWS” as well as 1994 storyboard and 1994 script for my short “Misunderstandings”, provided to them by Mr. Krzysztof Kieslowski.

The “windows” was the perfect ending to the film by Maestro Michelangelo Antonioni and Wim Wenders BEYOND THE CLOUDS (“Al di  delle nuvole“). It was a film that I myself wanted to make at that time, or to make films about such emotions and feelings that they explored so deeply.

I wish we could have made this film together… but I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of the film with Maestro Antonioni in Warsaw in March 1996 and seeing him in person.

Enjoy watching! Daniel Strehlau
