In September 2000 – during his scholarship from “The Kosciuszko Foundation” in NYC, Daniel Strehlau handed his screenplay “Three Stories”(1997) to Ms. Wei Ling Chang, Miramax Films acquisition. The meeting took place in the office of Miramax Films at 99 Hudson Street, NYC. After the meeting, a letter of interest was sent to Strehlau by Parker Stanberry, Miramax Films Acquisitions. The 9/11 tragic events delayed the response from lower Manhattan office. In 2010 Daniel Strehlau changed fundamentally the first story, added smartphones, Facebook, social media and changed the title to “Brooklyn” with sub-stories: “Hope, Need, Thirst”, since Brooklyn borough was his place of residency.
For personal reasons, Strehlau wanted to realize his project at that time in Polish in Poland. He hoped to meet his father on the film set, where Strehlau had the main role of David, who meets the character Grigio…
